FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR COUGARS:

· SLOW DOWN on Fourth Avenue. Drive slowly in front of Northwood and USE THE DROP-OFF LANE when driving your children to school.

· DO NOT drop car riders off in the street, across the street, or at one of the stop signs. Pull through the drop-off lane. Students must exit vehicle on the side next to the sidewalk!

· When pulling through the drop-off lane, please DO NOT STOP IN THE CROSSWALKS. Watch out for our safety patrols as they assist in stopping traffic at the crosswalks when pedestrians are crossing.

· DO NOT park in our neighbor’s yards. Use the designated parking areas.

· PLEASE obey all traffic signs and speed limits.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION FOR 2012-2013

Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2012, are asked to register their children for 2012-2013 kindergarten during the period of March 12-16 and March 26-30. March 19-23 is Spring Break and school staff may not be working that week.  Florida law provides that any child who will be five on or before September 1st is eligible for kindergarten that school year.  It is extremely important that new kindergarten students be registered beginning March 12 for the fall (August) school opening.  Classes will be formed, teachers assigned, and materials ordered on the basis of student enrollment.

Registration for kindergarten may be completed at any time during the regular school day at the school zoned for the child’s neighborhood.  To complete the registration process, parents must present proof of the child’s age (birth certificate), a Florida certificate of immunization, a social security card, and a school physical dated no later than twelve months prior to the first day of school.  Further information may be obtained by calling the schools or the School Board Administration at 833-5860.

SUMMER VPK REGISTRATION FOR 2012

Parents who wish to register their children for the Summer VPK Program are also requested to enroll their child at this time.  Florida law provides that any child who turned 4 on or before September 1, 2011 and is eligible to attend kindergarten in the 2012-2013 school year and did not attend VPK during the current 2011-2012 school year is eligible to attend Summer VPK (i.e., turned 4 on or before September 1, 2011 and will turn 5 by September 1, 2012).  For Summer VPK enrollment, parents must provide proof of Florida residency in addition to the registration items listed above.  To register for Summer VPK, a certificate of eligibility must be obtained from Child Care Services on 107 Tupelo Avenue, FWB: Phone number 833-9330, or Child Care Services on 804 Lloyd Street, Crestview, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, Monday and Wednesday; Phone number 689-7885 or 689-7886.

Summer VPK sites will be Southside Center (Crestview area), and two sites in the South area, enrollment permitting: Elliott Point and Wright Elementary.  Parent transportation must be provided for Summer VPK students.  Further information for Summer VPK enrollment may be obtained by calling Ms. Michelle Flaherty, Early Learning Coalition, at 833-3627 or Ms. Debbie Haan at 689-7211.

NEW DISTRICT ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

When a student accumulates a total of nine (9) excused or unexcused absences within a semester, the student must have an excuse from a doctor or an official agency (i.e., Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Children and Families), for each subsequent absence.  For purposes of make-up work, a partial day’s absence will be calculated in the limit of 9 days a semester.
